Quick answer

What are heated slippers, and are they safe?

Heated slippers are slippers with a small electric heating pad in each sole, powered by a rechargeable battery. Wattoes use a removable 2500 mAh power bank per slipper and three heat levels you choose with a button. They are designed for indoor, supervised use by healthy adults who are awake, and they are not a medical product.

Safety depends on three things: the surface temperature, how long you wear them and whether your feet can feel heat normally. Wattoes keep the sole surface between about 36 °C and 45 °C, and the guidance below explains how to use them sensibly.

  • Three heat levels with LED colour
  • Up to 6 hours per charge
  • Hand-washable knit

What are Wattoes heated slippers?

Wattoes are cordless, battery-heated slippers in a soft ribbed knit with a thick plush lining. Each slipper has a heating pad in the centre of the sole and a zipped pocket that holds a removable power bank. There is no cable between you and a wall socket, so you can walk to the kitchen, answer the door or move from sofa to desk.

They come in two colourways, gray and apricot, and both are unisex. The upper is a 65% polyester and 35% cotton knit with a polyester plush lining, and the sole is a non-slip rubber that works on tile, wood and carpet. Each slipper weighs about 210 g with its power bank fitted, which is light enough to forget you are wearing them.

This page is both a product page and an honest guide. You will find the temperature chart, the battery maths, the groups who should not use heated footwear and a plain comparison with the alternatives, all alongside the price. If you are researching the best heated slippers, battery heated slippers or cordless heated slippers, we want you to decide with full information.

Why do feet get cold at home?

Feet are the furthest point from the heart and have a high ratio of skin to muscle, so they lose heat quickly. When the body senses cold it narrows blood vessels in the extremities to protect the core, and your feet cool first. Standing on a hard floor adds to the effect, because tile, stone and laminate pull heat out of your soles by direct contact.

Cold floors

Hard flooring conducts heat away from the foot far faster than air does. A rug helps, but slippers with their own heat source keep the sole warm even on bare tile.

Sitting still

Desk work and long evenings on the sofa mean little muscle activity in the legs. Less movement means less warmth reaching the feet, which is why many people feel it most while working from home.

Lower thermostats

Many households now run the heating lower to save energy. Warming only your feet is a targeted way to stay comfortable at a lower room temperature.

Cold feet can occasionally point to a health issue, such as poor circulation or a nerve condition. If your feet are persistently cold, change colour, feel numb or hurt, speak with a doctor before using any heated product. Wattoes are a comfort product for healthy feet, not a treatment, and we make no medical claims.

Warm where it matters

The Wattoes pad sits under the arch and ball of the foot, the area that touches the floor. Because the heat is delivered at the contact point, you feel the difference within minutes and do not need to heat the whole room.

How battery-heated slippers work

A thin electrical heating element in the sole converts battery power into heat. The element sits under the centre of the foot, where the knit lining and sock layer spread the warmth. A small controller inside the pocket switches between three power levels, and the LED on the slipper shows which level is active.

The element is a flexible carbon-fibre heating film sealed inside the sole. It is only a fraction of a millimetre thick, so you do not feel it underfoot, and it warms evenly across the pad rather than in hot spots. The controller regulates power so the temperature stays steady at the level you chose.

1. The sole heater

A carbon-fibre heating pad in the centre of each sole warms the arch and ball of the foot and reaches comfortable temperature in about 3 to 5 minutes.

2. The zipped battery pocket

The power bank slides into a discreet inner pocket that keeps it secure and out of the way, and it can be removed before washing or charging.

The three heat levels

High · red light · 45 °C

Fastest warm-up for cold floors. Measured sole surface temperature is about 45 °C. Best for short periods while you are awake, then step down to Medium or Low.

Medium · blue light · 40 °C

A balanced level for sitting at a desk or on the sofa. Measured sole surface temperature is about 40 °C, which feels like a warm hand holding your foot.

Low · green light · 36 °C

Gentle background warmth and the longest run time, up to 6 hours. Measured sole surface temperature is about 36 °C, close to normal skin temperature.

Temperature control is by the button on the slipper: press once to switch on, again to change level and hold to switch off.

Who Wattoes suit: everyday moments at home

Heated slippers work best as an everyday comfort item for awake, healthy adults indoors. These are the situations where our customers use them most.

Home office

Sitting still for hours chills the feet first. Medium keeps you comfortable without raising the thermostat for the whole house.

Reading and TV evenings

Put them on Low for a gentle glow and enjoy two to three films or a long chapter on one charge.

Early mornings

Step onto a cold kitchen floor with warm soles. High warms up in minutes while the kettle boils.

Gifts for adults

Unisex sizing, two colours and ready-to-use packaging make them an easy present for partners, parents and friends who feel the cold.

Wattoes are not designed for outdoor use, sleeping, or children. If you are buying for an older relative, check that they can feel heat normally and can easily take the slippers off on their own.

How hot is too hot? Burn safety and who should not use them

Skin damage depends on both temperature and time. A surface that feels pleasantly warm for ten minutes can injure skin if it stays on for hours, particularly when the person cannot feel it clearly or is asleep. This is the main reason Wattoes are for awake, supervised, indoor use.

We designed the three levels around that evidence. The highest level is 45 °C, near the bottom of the range where injury needs several hours of continuous contact, and the lower levels sit below it. A sock layer and the plush lining add a further buffer between the pad and your skin.

The safety lesson: low heat for a long time can still burn. Take the slippers off if your feet feel hot, look red, or you are getting drowsy. Never wear them in bed.

Who should not use heated slippers

  • Anyone planning to sleep or nap in them
  • Children
  • Anyone with reduced sensation in the feet, for example diabetes or neuropathy, unless approved by a doctor
  • Anyone unable to remove the slippers themselves
  • Anyone with open wounds, swelling or skin conditions on the feet, unless a clinician agrees
  • Anyone using damaged, wet or modified slippers or batteries

Safe-use habits

  • Start on Low and move up only if you need to.
  • Check your feet after the first 10 minutes.
  • Remove the slippers if you feel unwell, sleepy or notice redness.
  • Do not sit on, fold or crush the soles while they are on.
  • Stop using any slipper that is damaged, swollen or smells hot.

Questions to ask before buying any heated footwear

  • What is the measured surface temperature at each level?
  • Which battery chemistry is used, and is there a protection circuit?
  • Are there test reports (IEC 62133-2, UN 38.3) and compliance marks?
  • Are the wash instructions validated by the maker?
  • Who is the EU or UK Responsible Person?
  • Are return and warranty terms clear and in writing?

Battery, charging and run time

Each slipper takes its own removable 2500 mAh lithium-ion polymer power bank, so the pair carries two. At a nominal 3.7 V, 2500 mAh is 9.25 Wh per slipper, or 18.5 Wh per pair. Each bank has a protection circuit against overcharge, over-discharge, short circuit and over-temperature.

Run time falls as heat level rises, because the pad draws more power. The table shows the numbers measured on a full charge at room temperature of about 20 °C. Colder rooms and older batteries shorten run time slightly.

Battery run-time calculator
Heat level Run time Wh per slipper Average draw
High (red) 2.5 h 9.25 Wh about 3.7 W
Medium (blue) 4 h 9.25 Wh about 2.3 W
Low (green) Up to 6 h 9.25 Wh about 1.5 W

Average draw = Wh ÷ hours. Real run time varies with room temperature, battery age and fit.

Charging and battery care

  • Charge only with the supplied 5 V USB-C cable and a 5 V charger. A full charge takes about 3 hours.
  • Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface, awake and in sight. Do not charge overnight unattended.
  • Remove the power banks before washing and let them reach room temperature before charging.
  • Do not use a bank that is swollen, dented, hot or wet. Stop and contact support.
  • For storage over summer, keep banks about half charged in a cool dry place.
  • Recycle spent batteries at a battery collection point, never in household waste.

Size guide and colours

Wattoes come in Gray (EU 39–44) and Apricot (EU 34–39). If you are exactly EU 39, either colour fits: choose Gray for a roomier fit over socks, or Apricot for a closer fit. If you are between sizes, size up for thick socks, because the knit stretches a little but the sole pad does not.

Size guide
Colour EU US UK Foot cm
Apricot 34–35 W 3.5–4.5 2.5–3 21.5–22.0
Apricot 36–37 W 5–6.5 3.5–4.5 22.5–23.5

How to measure your foot

  1. Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe.
  3. Measure from the wall to the mark in cm.
  4. Measure both feet and use the larger one.

Washing and care

The knit is a 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend, and the plush lining is polyester. The slippers are hand-washable once the power banks are out. Machine washing and tumble drying are not recommended, because heat and spinning can damage the heating film.

  1. 1

    Switch off, remove banks

Unzip the pocket and take both power banks out.

  2. 2

    Hand wash gently

Use cool water up to 30 °C and a mild detergent. Brush lightly, do not soak or wring.

  3. 3

    Air dry fully

Press out water with a towel and dry flat for 24 hours away from direct heat.

  4. 4

    Refit when dry

Put the banks back only when the slippers are completely dry inside and out.

Heated slippers buying guide: what to look for

The market for heated slippers has grown fast, and quality varies widely. Whether you choose Wattoes or another brand, use this checklist to compare products on the things that matter.

01

Surface temperature

Look for stated, measured temperatures at each level. Avoid products that only say warm or hot. Anything much above 45 °C for continuous wear is a concern.

02

Battery quality

Check for lithium cell certification, a protection circuit and a removable battery. Removable packs are safer to wash, replace and recycle.

03

Test reports and marks

Look for CE, UKCA, FCC or RCM marks as relevant to your country, and for named standards such as IEC 62133-2 and UN 38.3.

04

Run time you will actually use

Brands often quote run time on the lowest setting. Compare the numbers at the level you will really use.

05

Washability and grip

A removable battery makes washing realistic, and a rubber sole keeps you safe on smooth floors.

06

Honest claims and terms

Be wary of medical claims, sleep use or all-night wear. Check that returns, warranty and contact details are written down.

Heated slippers: myths vs facts

Myth

Hotter is always better.

Fact

Comfort comes from steady warmth. Start on Low and only go higher briefly, because injury risk rises with temperature and time.

Myth

You can leave them on overnight.

Fact

Never. Wattoes are for awake, supervised use only, and not for sleeping.

Myth

Heated slippers treat medical conditions.

Fact

They are a comfort product. We make no claims about pain relief, circulation or any condition.

Myth

Cordless means weak.

Fact

Foot warming needs little power. Two 2500 mAh banks give 2.5 to 6 hours, and a pad warms to comfort in minutes.

Myth

Battery slippers cannot be washed.

Fact

With removable power banks, Wattoes can be hand washed. Never wash with the batteries inside.

Warm feet without electricity

Heated slippers work best alongside simple habits. These tips cost nothing and help whatever you wear.

Layer up

A thin moisture-wicking sock under a wool sock traps warm air better than one thick pair. Avoid tight socks that squeeze the foot.

Move often

Stand, stretch and walk for a minute every half hour. Simple calf raises get blood flowing to the feet.

Insulate the floor

A rug or mat under your desk stops cold rising from tiles or boards. Draught excluders on doors help too.

Warm from the inside

A warm drink and a proper meal help your whole body, not only your feet.

Persistently cold feet, colour changes or numbness are worth discussing with a doctor.

Power and running cost

A full pair holds about 18.5 Wh, which is 0.0185 kWh. At an electricity price of $0.20 per kWh, a full charge costs about 0.4 cents, so even daily use costs well under $2 a year. Compare that with heating a whole room: a 1,500 W electric heater uses 1.5 kWh per hour, around 30 cents an hour at the same price.

0.4¢

per full charge of a pair

~$1.50

a year if charged daily

~30¢

per hour for a 1,500 W room heater

Our recommendation: which Wattoes and which package?

After testing the slippers across rooms, floors and routines, here is what we suggest. These are our honest picks, based on how people actually use them.

Apricot Wattoes heated slippers worn on a sofa

For yourself: 1x Wattoes

Pick Gray if you want a neutral look that hides wear, or Apricot for a lighter, cosier feel. Start on Low and keep Medium for desk days.

For two people: 2x Wattoes

Shared homes benefit from one pair each. Mixing Gray and Apricot makes it easy to tell them apart.

Best value: 3x Wattoes

Our best seller. It covers a small household or lets you gift a pair, and it includes free shipping at $44.36 per pair.

Family gifting: 4x Wattoes

At $35.97 per pair with free shipping, this is the lowest price per pair for gifting to adults.

Our verdict

Wattoes are a good fit if you are an adult who is often cold at home, wants cordless warmth and will follow the safety rules. They are not a good fit for sleeping, children, outdoor use or anyone with reduced foot sensation unless a doctor agrees. If that sounds like you, Medium on a desk day and Low on the sofa are the two settings you will use most.
